NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph’s men’s tennis junior Pierre Brondeau and freshman Kyle Chalmers have earned Atlantic 10 weekly awards, the conference office announced on Tuesday.  Brondeau was named the league’s Performer of the Week, while Chalmers shared Co-Rookie of the Week honors.

Brondeau was undefeated in the top two singles flights and won two of three first-flight doubles matches this week as the Hawks went 3-0.  On Tuesday, he earned a pair of wins in a match with local rival Drexel, winning his singles match in straight sets.  In Saturday’s conference tilt, the native of Perpignan, France, bounced back from a doubles setback to win his singles match in straight sets against Fordham.  He closed out the week against Sacred Heart on Sunday, where he and partner Jose Sierra dominated in number-one doubles before Brondeau cruised in the top singles flight.

Chalmers, from Tempe, Arizona, posted a 2-1 doubles record while going undefeated in singles play over the course of the week.  Chalmers and partner Andres Urrea earned wins over Drexel and Sacred Heart while falling to their opponents from Fordham in a 9-7 thriller.  In singles play, Chalmers won all of his matches in straight sets, including a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win against A-10 rival Fordham.

The Hawks travel to George Mason for a match on Tuesday afternoon before hosting La Salle on Wednesday.
