NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Returning a majority of its letterwinners from last year's record-setting squad, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team was picked to finish eighth in the Atlantic 10 this season according to a preseason poll of the conference coaches, A-10 officials announced on Monday.

Coming off a record 13 victories in 2012-13, the Hawks improved upon last year's prediction as SJU jumped three spots to an eighth place prediction, following last year's 11th place pick.

VCU was the top pick on the women's side, with city-rival Richmond slotted second. Rounding out the top three is Massachusetts.

George Washington is picked to finish fourth, followed by Fordham (fifth) and Saint Louis (sixth). Duquesne and Saint Joseph's are predicted to finish seventh and eighth, respectively, followed Rhode Island (ninth), George Mason (10th), Dayton (11th), St. Bonaventure (12th) and La Salle (13th).

The 2014 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship will be held April 24-27 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, the home of the Western & Southern Open. The Hawks begin the Spring portion of its schedule this Saturday at Navy.
