CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Several members of the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team played in the opening day of competition at the ITA Atlantic Regionals at the University of Virginia. Senior Devi Jadeja, juniors Aurora Davis and Kelly Mulquin and sophomore Kristina Eisenbrand all competed in matches today.
In the Main Doubles Draw, the pairing of Davis and Eisenbrand faced off against Liberty's Mariely Hassey and Rebekah Jenkins. The SJU duo put up a strong fight, but in the end it was the Flames who moved on with an 8-5 win.
In the Singles Qualifying Draw, Eisenbrand matched up versus Rachel Morales of Marshall. Despite dropping the first set, Eisenbrand rallied to even the match at one set apiece, 6-2., 4-6. Unfortunately for Eisenbrand, Morales would pull away in the third match to win the decisive set, 6-2.
Retruning to action in the Consolation Qualifying Singles Draw, Eisenbrand would fall to William and Mary's Sydney Smith.
Playing in the Extra Singles Matches Draw of 24, Jadeja fell to Navy's Darien Sears, 6-3, 6-3, while Mulquin dropped her match to Temple's Anais Nussaume, 6-1, 6-4.
Davis will begin play in the Singles Main Draw Saturday morning against UMBC's Isabel Aldunate.
