WASHINGTON, D.C. - Fueled by a pair of first half goals, the Saint Joseph’s men’s soccer team defeated the Howard Bison, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium. The win marks the first road victory for the Hawks this season.

Saint Joseph's (2-3-4) kicked off the scoring in the 19th minute of play as junior midfielder Jake Nelson took a shot from 30 yards out and saw the ball deflect off of Howard goalkeeper Eric Hamilton for his team-leading third goal of the season. The tally marks Nelson’s eighth of his career.

SJU struck again in the 43rd minute. For the second time in as many matches, sophomore forward Emmanuel Temeh made his mark on the pitch, this time lofting his shot right over Hamilton's head to score the Hawks’ second goal of the match.

Both first-half goals were assisted by senior midfielder Pat McGlynn

Junior defender Tommy Brooks rounded out the scoring for the Hawks in the 62nd minute of play. Brooks took possession of a corner kick from senior midfielder Jimmy Reilly and headed the ball past the Bison goalkeeper for his first tally of the season to give Saint Joseph’s the 3-0 lead.

After being held scoreless in their last two matches, the Hawks exploded on the offensive end to hold an eventual 13-6 advantage in shots. With that, Saint Joseph’s held a dominating 8-0 advantage in shots on goal and saw 11 of the match’s 12 corner kicks.

Redshirt senior Andrew D’Ottavi played a full 90:00 between the pipes to earn his fourth shutout of the season and ninth of his career to tie him for fifth with Bryan Benedict (2005-10) and Pat Kirchner (1982-84) in all-time career shutouts on Hawk Hill.

Saint Joseph’s returns to action in Newark, N.J. to take on NJIT this Wednesday, October 2. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
