MERION STATION, Pa. – Senior Shannon McNeill and junior Jordan Martin tallied for Saint Joseph’s, but Penn’s Jasmine Cole notched a hat trick to lead Penn past the Hawk field hockey team, 5-2, on Friday afternoon.

Penn (2-0) took the lead right away as Emily Corcoran scored her second of the season just 61 seconds into the game.  Cole then scored two in a row for the Quakers to extend the lead to 3-0 with 25:07 to go in the first half.

Saint Joseph’s (0-5) answered midway through the stanza as Martin took a feed from Nicole Gerdes and slid it past Penn goalkeeper Carly Sokach with 16:40 left in the half.  McNeill then fired home a rebound after Marin Vreeburg had her shot saved to get the Hawks back within a goal with 13:28 remaining.

Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Elise Tilton scored off a corner with 3:31 on the clock to give the Quakers a 4-2 lead at halftime.

Penn scored quickly out of the break once again as Cole found a loose ball in front of the cage just 15 seconds into the period to score the game’s final goal.

Amelia Deibler made seven saves in the cage for Saint Joseph’s in her collegiate debut, while Sokach made seven as well for the Quakers.

Saint Joseph’s will look to bounce back on Sunday when the Hawks host Towson.  Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
