Melissa Hieber, a 2002 graduate of Saint Joseph's, returns for her sixth season as a member of the women's lacrosse staff. A four-year letterwinner for the Hawks after earning a spot as a walk-on, Hieber earned a starting position her freshman year. A mainstay at midfield during her four years, Hieber was named captain as a senior. As a sophomore in 2000, she was named both the team's Defensive Player of the Year and MVP. As a senior, Hieber suffered a career-ending facial fracture. Due to her continued support and leadership off the field, she was honored by her teammates and coaches with the Loyalty Award.

Holding a bachelor's degree in marketing, Hieber earned a master's degree in education from Saint Joseph's in 2004. A 1998 graduate of Camden Catholic High School, she is currently working towards her master's in educational leadership to obtain her Principals' Certification. Hieber currently resides in Paoli, Pa. and teaches fifth grade in Lower Merion.
