Men's Lacrosse Closes Out Season with Victory Over Wagner, 9-8

Staten Island, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team closed out their season with a 9-8 victory over Wagner on Wednesday afternoon at Wagner Stadium. Sean Evans led the Hawks with four points including three goals and an assist while Griffin Ferrigan made 17 saves in the cage.

Saint Joseph's jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first half, including two goals by Evans in the first quarter with assist coming from Steve Dunn and Kyle Williams.

Artie Marrapese started the scoring three minutes into the second quarter and after Peter Slowik scored at the 8:20 mark, Marrapese added another with 6:19 to go. The Hawks took advantage of a man-up opportunity as Evans sent a ball in to Williams to make it 6-0 at 5:03. Slowik and Dunn each added scores for an 8-0 lead at the half.

After outshooting SJU by eight in the first half the SeaHawks came firing back in the second half and outshot the Hawks 30-12 and outscored SJU, 8-1.

Wagner brought the margin to five at 8-3 with 3:50 to go in the third quarter before Evans struck back just 36 seconds later. The SeaHawks made it 9-4 to end the third as they scored a man-up goal with just 12 seconds remaining in the frame.

In the fourth quarter Wagner tacked on four more goals to make it 9-8 with 1:24 left in the game. Ferrigan made a stop in the final minute and totaled six saves in the frame to hold Wagner off and take the victory.
