NEW YORK, NY (02/15/03) - Freshman Andria Smythe was an ECAC qualifier in two events and the 4x800 relay team broke the school record as the Hawks competed this weekend at the Armory Invitational. Competing with only a handful of athletes, Saint Joseph's finished 23rd of 24 teams. Smythe equalled her best time of the season in the 60m dash with a 7.66, good for fourth place in the event. She also was the first Hawk to break the 19-foot mark in the long jump this season, as her season best leap (19'1 1/2") was good for eighth in the field of 24. The 4x800 team of senior Sarah Conway, sophomores Mary Crossin and Kelly Victory, and freshman Thuy Nguyen finished third with a time of 9:01.36, an ECAC qualifier and school record setter. SJU sent three competitors to race in the 800m and came away with a good showing. Conway finished second in her heat (2:14.71), which would have been good for sixth overall. Nguyen won her heat (2:16.29), good for 10th overall. Junior Amy Manwaring ran a season-best time of 10:10.66 in the 3000m which earned her ninth place. Junior Sarah Click leaped 5'3" in the high jump for 13th place. Saint Joseph's has one week to prepare for this Saturday's Atlantic 10 Championship at Rhode Island.
