Riverdale, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team fell to Manhattan, 14-7, on Saturday afternoon at Gaelic Park. Griffin Ferrigan made 14 saves in the cage while Sean Evans and Artie Marrapese netted two apiece for the Hawks.
Jaspers' James Synowiez scored two goals as Manhattan jumped out to a 3-0 lead with seven minutes to go in the first. SJU's Trevor Dougherty and Charlie Gorman each added a score to put the Hawks back within one, but Synowiez added another to end the frame at 4-2.
Steve Dunn opened scoring in the second but Synowiez struck again with back-to-back goals for Manhattan. After Marrapese and Evans scored for the Hawks Synowiez added another with four seconds remaining in the period for a 7-5 score at the break.
Evans put SJU within one with 5:15 to go in the third but the Jaspers went on a 3-1 run in the last 2:21 of the third period to go up by three, 10-7.
After the Hawks outshot Manhattan, 23-15, in the second and third quarters the Jaspers outshot (12-9) and outscored (4-1) the Hawks in the final quarter with an SJU goal from Marrapese.
Synowiez tallied seven goals for the Jaspers, six of which came in the first half.
Geoff DeSoye added a goal and an assist for the Hawks.
Saint Joseph's wraps up its season on Wednesday at Wagner. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
