NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Joseph's freshman forward Jordan Martin was selected as the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Martin scored twice in Saturday's game against Delaware.
Martin tallied her first of the day early in the second half on a shot over UD goalkeeper Noelle Diana. Later on, she scored on a breakaway attempt, corralling the ball at midfield and beating Diana one-on-one to notch her second of the game.
Saturday's game was Martin's first career multi-goal game and gave her four goals for the season, tying her for the team lead. The four goals are the most scored by a Saint Joseph's freshman since Jen Wrublesky tallied 10 in the 2007 season.
The contest also marked the first game on the new turf at Ellen Ryan Field, SJU's newest varsity athletic facility. The pitch, located along City Avenue on the James J. Maguire '58 Campus, is the new home of Saint Joseph's field hockey and will play host to the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship.
The Hawks will be back in action at Ryan Field on Thursday when the nationally ranked Golden Bears of California are in town for a 4:00 p.m. start.
