PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA (4/06/04) - Saint Joseph's (6-27) couldn't make an early 2-0 lead stand up, as Villanova (18-8-1)topped the Hawks 7-3 in midweek baseball action. SJU used six different pitchers. Sophomore Ryan Stadanlick and freshman Adriano Petrutz each had two hits.

The Crimson and Gray broke on top early, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. Mike Gentile opened the game with a single and Jason Tarewicz followed with a walk. An error than allowed Bill McCollum to reachand load the bases. Stadanlick and Matt Godusky then each knocked home a run.

The Wildcats rallied back and took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. They added another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to build a 6-3 lead.

The Hawks threatened in the eighth as Stadanlick and Godusky opened the frame with a single and a walk. A sacrifice fly by Nick Baldasari brought home a run and a single by Petrutz left SJU with two on and one out. VU changed pitchers though and got a strikeout and a groundball to end the threat.

The Wildcats closed out and added insurance with asingle run in the bottomofthe frame.

McCollum (0-5), who tossed two innings while getting in some midweek work, suffered the loss. He allowed three runs on two hits and walked three. Jeff Williams also tossed two innings,while Joel Grimshaw, Bob Unkel, Pat Santone and Stadanlick each worked an inning. Jake Wolff (2-1) went five innings surrendering five hits and two runs.

SJU hosts George Washington in a three game weekend series on Friday and Saturday.
