PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team fell to Bellarmine, 10-4 under the lights at Drexel's Vidas Field on Saturday night. Senior Sean Evans scored two goals and had one assist in the game.
Evans put the first poin on the board at the 12:46 mark before Bellarmine scored two goals a minute apart, but 25 seconds later Evans set up Brendan Burke for another goal at 9:58 tie the game at 2-2.
The Knights' Derek Hopcroft added another goal at the 7:53 mark and then Matt Dougherty tied it back up at 3:03. Hopcroft scored again when he took advantage of a man-up opportunity with just 46 seconds remaining for a 4-3 Bellarmine lead.
After a scoring frenzy in the first period the teams would battle for the next two quarters with a Bellarmine goal and a man-down goal from Evans in the second. Neither team could connect on any shots in the third quarter while goalkeeper Griffin Ferrigan made seven saves in the frame.
Despite outshooting the Knights 10-8 in the fourth quarter, Bellarmine sealed the win early with the first of five straight goals less than two minutes into the period for a 10-4 final.
Ferrigan tallied 13 saves in net on the night.
The Hawks return to action on Tuesday with 4:00 p.m. game start at Drexel.
