New Brunswick, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team fell to Rutgers, 15-6, on Saturday afternoon at RU Turf Field. Senior Sean Evans netted three goals for the Hawks.
Saint Joseph's Joey D'Avanzo scored the loan goal in the first period as the Scarlet Knights jumped out to a 6-1 lead, outshooting the Hawks 14-4 in the frame.
Evans scored a man-up goal just 31 seconds into the second period with an assist from sophomore Matt Dougherty before the teams played a scoreless seven minutes. At the 6:57 mark Rutgers went on a scoring spree with three goals in just 21 seconds and added another goal with seven seconds left in the quarter.
The Scarlet Knights didn't look back from their 10-2 halftime lead as they outscored Saint Joseph's 2-1 with the lone Hawks' goal by Evans in the third.
SJU's Scott Cullinan, Evans, and Kyle Williams added three goals in the fourth quarter and outshot the Scarlet Knights 10-9 in the final frame but Rutgers put three more on the board for a 15-6 final.
The Hawks face Penn next on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. on Franklin Field.
