HAWKS SIGN FIRST INTERNATIONAL ATHLETE

PHILADELPHIA, PA (07/12/02) - Saint Joseph's University women's track and field coach Kevin Quinn is pleased to announce a first for Hawk women's track and field program. Andria Smythe, a native of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, has signed a national letter of intent to compete for Saint Joseph's becoming the first international athlete to don the Crimson and Gray. A graduate of St. Elizabeth Technical School, Smythe competed at the Penn Relays in April, running the lead leg of the Large School champion 4x100 relay team. At the Jamaican Inter Secondary School Sports Association Championships, she finished second in the long jump, fourth in the 100 meters and seventh in the 100 meter hurdles. The Hawks are coming off a track season in which they finished eighth in the Atlantic 10 in both indoor and outdoor track.
