"Sometimes there are games where you just don't have it," said head coach Michelle Finegan. "We had some chances today, but unfortunately we weren't able to convert on them.
"We're looking forward to getting back out there next Friday against Richmond," she added.
Massachusetts (4-9 overall, 2-0 Atlantic 10) jumped out in front right away as Molly MacDonnell tallied her first of the season two minutes into the contest.
Midway through the frame, Nicole Cordero scored her third of the season to double the lead, followed by Lindsay Bowman eight minutes later to give the Minutewomen a 3-0 halftime advantage.
UMass notched four more goals over a span of 13:09 in the second half to close out the scoring. The Minutewomen benefited from goals by MacDonnell, Christine Cutry, Mel Sutherland, and Callie Sweigart to seal the win.
As a team, Saint Joseph's (5-8 overall, 0-2 Atlantic 10) made12 saves in the contest; two by Messaros in the first half, eight by Mitchell in the second, and defensive saves by Abby Hoover and Katie Walsh.
The Hawks return to action at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday, October 21, for an Atlantic 10 conference game against Richmond. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
