EASTON, PA (12/07/02) -- Freshman Andria Smythe captured three gold medals, qualfied for the ECAC in two events, and set a school record as the Saint Joseph's women's track team opened up their season at the Lafayette Invitational on Saturday. The rookie from Jamaica won the long jump (5.72 meters), triple jump (10.93m), and 60 yard dash (7.16). Her win in the 60 yard dash set a new school record and also qualified her for the ECAC, as did her gold in the long jump. She was honored with the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. Other winners for the Hawks included junior Sarah Click in the high jump (5'4") and freshman Thuy Nguyen in the 880 yard dash (2:19.7). Senior captain took home a silver in the 880y with a time of 2:20.2, as did sophomore Colleen Ladden in thet 220y dash (27.10). The mile relay team of Ladden, Nguyen, junior Yasmin Copeland, and Conway finished fourth with a time of 4:07.9 and junior Erin Blaustein finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 4.88m. Saint Joseph's is off until after the new year, when they compete in the Terripin Invitational on January 4, 2003.
