PHILADELPHIA – Coming off of a dominating 3-1, season-opening, home win over Temple on Friday evening, the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad (1-0-0) will host Hartford (0-1-0) this Tuesday, August 29. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.

Under the direction of eighth-year head coach Don D'Ambra, Saint Joseph’s returns 14 Hawks and adds 11 first-year players for the 2017 season. The Hawks are captained by 2016 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team selection and senior midfielder Matt Crawford, senior defender Ben Zambetti, and junior defender Eddie McCusker. Tuesday’s match will mark the third all-time meeting between Saint Joseph’s and Hartford. The all-time series is tied, 1-1-0, but the Hawks are 1-0-0 under the direction of head coach Don D’Ambra after downing Hartford, 1-0, on September 13 of last season; Crawford created a turnover just outside of the box on SJU’s offensive end that would lead to the match-winning score. The initial meeting between the two squads resulted in a 2-0 Hartford win on October 5, 1985.

Atlantic 10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Philadelphia Soccer Six Offensive Player of the Week Crawford scored all three of SJU's goals in the Hawks' 3-1 win over Temple on Friday, while senior goalkeeper and Philadelphia Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week Trevor Nicol held the Owls scoreless in the final 55:24, making two saves in his collegiate debut.

Hartford is 0-1-0 after falling to Holy Cross, 2-1, on Friday evening. Gael Kisombe scored on a 25-yard strike off of a feed from Alexis Triadis in the 48th minute. Hartford was predicted to finish fifth in the America East Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. The (Hartford) Hawks went 9-10-3 (2-3-2 AEC) and reached the AEC title match last fall.
