AMHERST, MASS. – Senior Dan Savage placed second in the 3000m steeplechase to lead the Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad to a seventh-place team finish in a field of 11 teams at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at UMass' Track and Field Complex this Saturday and Sunday. The Hawks totaled 45.5 points on the weekend.
Savage earned SJU's only medal of the meet by clocking in with a collegiate-best time of 9:08.40 for the silver. The senior also placed fifth in the 5000m, crossing in a collegiate-best time of 14:32.27 for four points to total more than a quarter of SJU's points on the weekend.
The Hawks earned 12 points from the relays as the 4x800m relay of junior Dan Ferraiolo, sophomore Rory Houston, senior Jack Magee, and junior Steve Thompson crossed in 7:35.88 for fourth place (5 points), the 4x100m relay of freshman David Bryant, freshman Justin Moscoe, senior Kevin Barry, and junior Kenny Evely crossed in 42.86 for fifth place (4 points), and the 4x400m relay of Moscoe, freshman Trae' Robinson, junior Barren McCoy, and senior Eddison Gulama crossed in 3:16.34 for sixth place (3 points).
Senior Torey Doaty (400H, 52.87) and sophomore Justin Branco (3000S, 9:22.23 PR) placed fourth in their respective events to combine for 10 points while sophomore Alec Arena (HJ, 1.92m PR) tied for fourth for 4.5 points.
Sophomore Dylan Eddinger's fifth-place finish in the 800m (1:52.85) was good for four points.
Junior Collin Crilly placed seventh in the 1500m (3:53.82 PR) for two points while senior Jimmy Daniels crossed the finish line of the 10,000m in 31:32.55, good for an eighth-place, one-point performance for the Crimson and Gray.
Bryant (100m, 16th, 11.15), Evely (200m, 16th, 22.31 PR), and Gulama (400m, 14th, season-best 49.12) also turned in SJU's highest finishes in their respective events.
Qualifying Hawks will return to action at next weekend's IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships, to be hosted by Princeton University at Weaver Stadium in Princeton, N.J. from Friday, May 12 through Sunday, May 14.
