VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Saint Joseph’s men’s tennis team dug out of an early hole on Wednesday, but ultimately fell to Villanova, 5-2, in the Hawks’ final road tilt of the season.

Villanova (13-9) won the doubles point by claiming the first two flights, but junior Peter Dewitt and sophomore Dan Tan came away with a 7-6 win in the third flight.

Sophomore Tim Stierle got Saint Joseph’s (11-10) on the board with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the first singles flight, while senior Tristan Boustany left the match knotted at two apiece with a 6-3, 7-5 result in the fifth.

Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the Wildcats won the remaining singles flights to secure the overall match victory.

“It was a hard-fought battle, uphill al the way after losing the doubles point,” head coach Ian Crookenden said. “It was a long, tough fight that ultimately went to Villanova, who earned the win.”

The Hawks will wrap up the regular season with home matches against Rider and Saint Peter’s on Sunday before heading to the Atlantic 10 Championships beginning next Wednesday, April 26.
