The Saint Joseph’s men’s rowing team had another strong performance at the annual Kerr Cup Regatta, on April 15 on the Schuylkill River. The Hawks earned medals in four of the five events they entered.
The Varsity 8 culminated the day with a runner-up finish to host Drexel in the Grand Final, as the Hawks clocked a 5:59.0. That boat was comprised of: c- Caroline Bird; 8- Matt Ladd; 7- Keenan Perry; 6- Garren Best; 5- Riley McGwin; 4- Dave Wong; 3- Slam Dunkley; 2- Thomson Rymer; 1- Claudio Recchilungo.
SJU’s Third Varsity 8 also claimed a silver medal in 6:31.2 to finish behind Drexel, with a lineup of: c- Fiona Conway; 8- Josh Bostrom; 7- Brian Clancy; 6- Jack Darling; 5- Trevor Tuthill; 4- Mike Geoghegan; 2- Rob McCullough; 1- Nick O’Malley
The Second Varsity 8 and the Novice 4 each earned bronze medals. The Eight finished behind Delaware and Michigan. while the Four was outdistanced by Michigan and Temple.
The Second Varsity 8 was comprised of: c- Jenn Reynolds; 8- Devin Swech; 7- Joe Sullivan; 6- Matt Conlin; 5- Andrew O'Connor; 4- Justin Aikens; 3- Kevin Lichtenfels; 2- Eric Jones; 1- James Hammerstedt.
The Freshman 4 consisted of: c- Caroline Seelig; 4- Joel Ridd; 3- Eddie Blackburn; 2- Tommy McGuane; 1- Jansen Kachel.
Saint Joseph’s Freshman 8 took fifth place with the lineup of: c- Courtney McDonnell; 8- Patrick Ganter; 7- Julian Palermo; 6- Justin Hawkins; 5- Sam Ferrizzi; 4- Mike Thompson; 3- Mark White; 2- John Thompson; 1- Bobby Lojewski.
The Hawks will compete for the city championship next weekend, April 22, in the Bergen Cup on the Schuylkill.
