FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart's Brian Masi scored 54 seconds into overtime as the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse squad dropped a 12-11 heartbreaker in Northeast Conference action at Campus Field on Saturday afternoon. With their sixth straight loss, the Hawks fall to 3-9 overall (0-4 NEC) while the Pioneers improve to 7-4 overall (3-2 NEC).

Junior attackman Chris Blewitt recorded a game-high five points, including the 100th of his career, on three goals and two assists while in just his fourth collegiate lacrosse game and first collegiate start, freshman attackman James Bohlinger scored twice. Junior midfielder Hayes McGinley also added a pair of scores.

Trailing 10-7 entering the fourth quarter, the Hawks used a three-goal run from junior midfielder Kyle Cain (14:07), Bohlinger (6:12), and McGinley (5:19) to knot the score, 10-10.

Sacred Heart's Bryce Jurk found Julian Garritano to go up by one in heading into the final 4:36, but an SHU slashing penalty set up an SJU EMO with 14 ticks to play in regulation. With five seconds to play, Blewitt found senior midfielder Ray Vandegrift for the man-up equalizer to send the 11-11 game into overtime.

The Pioneers won the overtime face-off on an SJU violation, and Max Tuttle took a shot just wide at the 3:13 mark of the overtime frame. Jurk collected the ground ball and hit Masi, who tucked away the game-winner.

For the game, Saint Joseph's owned edges in shots (30-28), ground balls (36-33), and face-off wins (14-12) while both teams went 1-for-3 in EMOs.

Senior Connor Kubikowski and junior Austin Smith combined for 13 ground balls and six caused turnovers, while senior face-off specialist Danny Manning added six ground balls to go with 14 wins from the X.

Senior goalkeeper T.J. Jones (3-9, 0-4 NEC) made six saves in the full 60:54.

Tuttle scored twice and added an assist to lead the Pioneers to a 3-2 edge by the end of the first quarter.

Saint Joseph's junior attackmen Jason Kelly (14:16) and Blewitt (11:17) combined to give the Hawks their first lead of the game, 4-3, but the Pioneers responded with a pair (7:46, 6:53) to go back ahead, 5-4.

Blewitt then netted the equalizer (5:55) and the go-ahead goal (5:15) and senior midfielder Kevin Reidinger scored with 2:58 remaining in the second quarter to give the Hawks a 7-5 advantage heading into the halftime break.

SHU scored all five goals of the third quarter to jump ahead, 10-7, entering the fourth.

Saint Joseph's returns home to host Wagner in the regular-season home finale next Saturday, April 22. Opening face-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field. The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse program will honor its 14 graduating seniors in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the start of the game.

GAME NOTES: Making their 60th career appearances, seniors Anthony Joaquim and Connor Kubikowski now tie with Pat Swanick '16 for seventh all-time career-games played at SJU; the record is 63 and held by John Winchell '16.
