MERION STATION, Pa. - Saint Joseph's senior Sarah Contrata picked up a win at the sixth singles flight, but the visiting Delaware Blue Hens picked up the team win, 6-1, over the host Hawks on Thursday.

Delaware opened the match with wins at all three doubles matches, despite the Hawks pushing the play at the first and third flights.

In singles play, Contrata was a 7-5, 7-6 (3) victor at the sixth flight for the Hawks. Senior Alex Zachem and Delaware's Sarah Hall battled to three sets, but Hall would prevail in the decisive set.

Overall, the Blue Hens captured five of six flights for the team win.

"A balanced Delaware squad handed our ladies a loss, but some good fighting play from Sarah Contrata and Alex Zachem prevented the match from being a quick and easy decision for the Blue Hens.," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden.

Saint Joseph's (6-12) returns to action this Saturday when it hosts Rhode Island at 1 p.m.
