PHILADELPHIA - An Olympian and the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year in 2000, Jana Lichnerova '00 will be inducted into the Saint Joseph's University Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in conjunction with the team's 41st Annual Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 6 at Drexelbrook in Drexel Hill, Pa.

Possessing a unique combination of size, skill and toughness, the Bratislava, Slovakia native proved to be the ultimate winner during her Saint Joseph’s career, leading the Hawks to a pair of Atlantic 10 Championships (1997, 1999), three Big Five titles (1997, 1999, 2000) and three NCAA Tournament appearances. SJU’s 93 victories during that span are the second highest four-year total in program history. The Hawks also ranked in the NCAA’s Top-10 in scoring defense in each of her four seasons, finishing second in the nation in 2000 (53.1 ppg.)

A starter in all 116 games that she played during her career, Lichnerova was named both the A-10 Player and Student-Athlete of the Year as a senior. She also garnered First All-A-10 and Big 5 recognition that season. For her career, she was a two-time All-Big 5 and All-A-10 honoree, as well as a two-time Academic All-Big 5 selection. She still ranks among SJU’s career leaders in points (1,158), rebounds (665), steals (168) and three-point field goal percentage (38.1%).

After graduating from SJU with a double major in international relations and political science, Lichnerova represented Slovakia at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, helping the team to a seventh place finish, as well as at the European Championships. She has also gone on to a long and successful professional career. A fourth round selection in the 2000 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx, she has spent 15 years playing across Europe, including stints in Austria, France, Hungary, Italy and the Czech Republic. She helped the Flying Foxes Basketball Club in Vienna to seven Austrian Women’s Basketball League titles, including an undefeated season and championship in 2017. An interior designer away from the court, she currently resides in Bratislava with her husband and daughter.

Tickets for the Women’s Baskteball Banquet are $40 and can be purchased online by visiting alumni.sju.edu/wbb.  Drexelbrook is located at 4700 Drexelbrook Drive in Drexel Hill, Pa.  For more information, contact Kathy MacDonald at 610-660-1710 or kmacdona@sju.edu.
