ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Senior captain Kyle Chalmers earned a pair of victories on Wednesday morning as the Saint Joseph’s men’s tennis team clawed back from an early deficit to beat Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-3, at Sanlando Park.

Chalmers paired with sophomore Dan Tan for a 6-3 win in the second doubles flight, but the Knights claimed the doubles point with wins in the first and third flights.

In singles play, sophomore Tim Stierle earned a 7-5, 6-3 straight-sets victory over Gonzalo Quintana in the top flight to get the Hawks on the board.  Chalmers, meanwhile, held off Danilo Vukotic, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, in flight number two.

A pair of victories in the fourth and sixth flights finished off the team result for SJU.  In the fourth flight, senior Tristan Boustany was a 6-4, 7-6 (5) winner over Diogo Garnel, while junior Peter Dewitt rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Salomon Koster in the sixth.

"It was a very good, competitive match in which the Hawks fought back after losing the doubles point," head coach Ian Crookenden said.  "The Knights enjoyed a 2-0 lead before Peter, Tim, and Tristan all pulled out straight-sets victories.  It was fitting that our captain, Kyle, closed out his match, taking the pressure off of Dan, who lost the third set in a rush of relief at not having the decision hinge on his outcome.

"Another tough match finishes our doubleheader day," he continued.  "I feel that our outdoor play can get a lot better, but today's fight showed that adversity is now considered a challenge rather than a problem."

The Hawks will try to keep the momentum going later Wednesday evening in a match with Liberty.
