STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Junior Claudine Andre won the high jump to lead the Saint Joseph’s women’s track and field squad at the unscored Fastrack National Invitational, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon. Andre and junior miler Cassidy Weimer turned in ECAC-qualifying performances for the Crimson and Gray.
Andre matched her season-best mark (1.70m) to win the event in a field of 22 high jumpers. The win marks the fourth high jump victory of her collegiate career, and Andre has now met the ECAC-qualifying mark three times in four opportunities this season.
Weimer went sub-5:00 in the mile for the first time in her collegiate career as the junior clocked in at an ECAC-qualifying 4:57.60, good for 26th in a field of 66. Weimer bested her previous PR (5:02.02), set at Penn State two weekends ago, by over four seconds.
Also excelling in the high jump, senior Emely Ramirez tied with Penn’s Noel Jancewicz for second in the event with a mark of 1.65m.
Sophomore Bridget McNierney went for a collegiate-best mark of 5.26m in the long jump, significantly surpassing her previous PR (5.14m) in the event, set at Yale last weekend. The performance won her heat and was good for fourth overall in a field of 22.
Fifth-year senior Dannah Hayward flew to a new collegiate-best time in the 400m, crossing the finish line in 57.37 for seventh in a field of 44. Hayward won her heat by over two seconds and improved upon her PR in the event, set in February of 2013, by .30 seconds.
In the 200m, freshman Caroline Duffy placed 11th in a field of 64, turning in a time of 25.21.
Also of note, freshman Emily Bracken had a strong showing in the mile, as the rookie clocked in with a season-best time of 5:02.50.
Sophomore Lindsey Oremus won her 16-person heat by over three seconds with a collegiate-best time of 10:12.88.
The Hawks return to action at the Monmouth Winter Invitational at Monmouth's OceanFirst Bank Center on Saturday, February 11.
The 2017 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships run next weekend, from Saturday, February 18 through Sunday, February 19 in Fairfax, Va.
