RICHMOND, Va. - The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team dropped its Atlantic 10 opener at Richmond  on Saturday, 70-52, despite junior forward Adashia Franklyn setting a new program record for rebounds in a game with 25.

Franklyn, who finished with 12 offensive rebounds and 13 defensive boards, surpassed the Hawks' previous single-game mark of 21 held by Trish Brown, Dale Hodges and Chatilla van Grinsven.

Saint Joseph's (3-10, 0-1 A-10) jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but Richmond quickly answered back to take control of the game.

Using an 11-0 run, the Spiders (7-7, 1-0 A-10) opened a 13-7 edge and finished with a 15-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Ahead 32-26 in the second quarter, Richmond ended the half on a 9-0 run to build a 41-26 lead as the Spiders finished the period shooting 14-of-25 from the field (56 percent), while holding the Hawks to just 9-of-37 (24.3 percent).

Down by as many as 19 in the third quarter, Saint Joseph's battled back to make it a nine-point game, 56-47, on a three-point play by Franklyn with 5:32 to play.

That would be as close as the Hawks would get though as Richmond closed out the game with a 14-5 run.

For the game, SJU went 19-of-66 from the field (28.8 percent), 5-of-16 from three-point range (31.3 percent) and 9-of-17 from the foul line (52.9 percent).

Sophomore guard Alyssa Monaghan led all scorers with 18 points and was joined in double figures by Franklyn with 13 points.

At the other end, Richmond finished 24-of-55 from the floor (43.6 percent), 5-of-18 from behind the arc (27.8 percent) and 17-of-22 from the foul line (77.3 percent). Lauren Tolson and Micaela Parson each had 17 points to lead four Spiders in double figures.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Wednesday at George Washington at 7 p.m.
