LEHIGH, Pa. – Saint Joseph’s relay group of sophomore Jenna DeAngelo, senior Mia Greer, sophomore Alana Whitmarsh, and junior Marina Rufo won the 4x4 to lead the Saint Joseph’s women’s track and field team at the Lehigh Games on Saturday afternoon.
DeAngelo, Greer, Whitmarsh, and Rufo won the event in 4:07.05. The Hawks finished an entire 4.72 seconds faster than the event’s runner-up group.
In addition to running legs on the championship 4x4, junior Marina Rufo ran a season-best 400m in 1:00.00 to clinch third place while senior Mia Greer posted her first collegiate 400H time under 1:07.00 – 1:06.95 – to set a new PR in the event for eighth.
Junior Georgia Mason flew through the 100H in 14.73 to take home third place for the Crimson and Gray. The time stands as SJU’s fastest 100H time of the outdoor season.
A trio of freshmen boasted top-six performances. Freshman Jacqueline Pignataro took fifth in the 5k in 20:09.73 to lead three Hawks in the event while sophomore Kathryn Cols placed fifth in the 1500m in a field of 41 competitors. Cols checked in with a new personal-record 1500m time of 4:53.39 and edged out Lafayette’s Isabella Maita by .46 seconds for the top-five finish. Senior Emma Slattery ran the 800m in 2:19.07 to place sixth in a field of 43 competitors and to lead seven Hawks in the event.
Saint Joseph’s 4x1 of freshman Carly Montgomery, Mason, freshman Ashley Gerald, and junior Kayla Charles crossed the finish line in 49.64. Gerald also ran the 200m in 26.59 for sixth in a field of 28 while Montgomery ran the 100m in 13.65 for 12th.
Saint Joseph’s returns to action next weekend at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Amherst, Massachusetts from Saturday, May 3 through Sunday, May 4.
