PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Saint Joseph’s baseball team wrapped up its Spring Break trip on Sunday morning, falling to Iowa, 9-7.  Senior Kevin Kratochwill went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while junior Brian O'Keefe notched two hits on the day to go with two runs batted in.

Iowa (11-4) took the lead in the third, scoring on a single by Taylor Zeutenhorst and an RBI groundout by Kris Goodman.

Saint Joseph’s (7-6) got one back in the fourth as Tommy Cunningham launched his second home run of the season.

The Hawks pulled ahead in the fifth as Ryan Pater led off with a walk and O'Keefe followed two batters later with his first longball of the year to give SJU a 3-2 lead.

The Hawkeyes took the lead for good in the sixth, batting around and scoring six times on three hits and three walks.

SJU tallied again in the bottom half of the frame as Kratochwill singled and advanced on a wild pitch before Pater singled him home to cut the deficit to 8-4.

Iowa tallied one more in the seventh, but the Hawks rallied for a three-spot in the eighth to get back in the game.  Mike Muha led off with a single before Kraotchwill doubled and Taylor Boyd singled Muha home to make it a 9-5 game.  Pater chipped in with a sacrifice fly and Chris Hueth doubled home Boyd to cut the deficit to two.

Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Nick Hibbing retired the side in order in the ninth to record his third save of the year.

Tyler Peyton improved to 3-0 on the season for the Hawkeyes, allowing four runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings.  Jason Holcomb was charged with four runs in a third of an inning to fall to 0-1.

Saint Joseph's returns to Smithson Field on Wednesday for a game against Monmouth before opening conference play Friday at George Washington.  First pitch on Wednesday is set for 3:00 p.m.
