CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped its first two games of the University of South Florida under Armour Showcase Friday afternoon. The Hawks fell in the opener, 2-1, to Central Connecticut State and 10-2 to Rutgers in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Hawks fell behind 2-0 early to the Blue Devils, but rallied to make it 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth as Nicole Palase scored on a RBI single by Sarah Yoos.

Unfortunately for SJU, it couldn't rally in the bottom of the seventh as Central Connecticut held on for the 2-1 win.

Saint Joseph's (6-8) fell behind early against Rutgers as the Scarlet Knights jumped out to a 10-0 advantage.

The Hawks would score a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth on RBIs by Morgan Earling and Hannah Dionne, with Earling and Kerrie Kortmann scoring for SJU. However the rally didn't continue as Rutgers held Saint Joseph's off the scoreboard in the fifth for the win.

Saint Joseph's returns to action Saturday against Wagner and Bryant.
