PHILADELPHIA - Senior guard Langston Galloway led four Hawks in double digits, but the Saint Joseph's men's basketball team fell to Temple, 77-69, in SJU's Big 5 opener at the Liacouras Center on Wednesday night.  Galloway's 24 points led all scorers, while Ronald Roberts, Jr. (13), DeAndre' Bembry (12), and Halil Kanacevic (11) also reached double figures for the Crimson and Gray.

The loss ended a two-game winning streak for Saint Joseph's (4-3; 0-1 Big 5) and a two-game SJU winning streak vs. the Owls. Temple improves to 4-3 and 2-0 in the Big 5.

As is typical of Big 5 battles, the game featured 14 ties and 17 lead changes. The final tie of the game came with 4:27 to play, when Galloway connected on his sixth three-pointer of the game to knot the score, 65-65. But the Hawks would go on to miss three straight three-point attempts and Anthony Lee scored on a layup at 2:09 to give Temple the lead for good, 67-65. Next time down the court, Kanacevic missed on a three and the Owls' Quenton Decosey made one of two free throws to increase the TU lead to 68-65.

Roberts scored the Hawks' last basket of the game at :40, and then Temple took numerous trips to the foul line, making 7-of-8 to ice the victory.

Temple led at halftime, 39-34, but Saint Joseph's opened the second half with a 7-2 run, started by a three from Galloway. The Hawks would outscore the Owls, 17-9, in the first seven minutes of the period, paced by eight points from Bembry, to take a 51-48 lead, their biggest of the half.

The Owls answered with eight points in a row to take a 56-51 lead, before the Hawks cut it to 56-54 on a three by Galloway. Saint Joseph's came within a point once more, 58-57, on a Galloway three at 8:30.

The Hawks converted 81.3 percent from the foul line, showing improvement from the 56 percent shooting in the three games of the Old Spice Classic. But SJU struggled from beyond the arc, making just 6-of-26 three-pointers, with Galloway converting all of them.

Saint Joseph's will play its second straight Big 5 game on Saturday, December 7, when it hosts Villanova at Hagan Arena. Game time is 6 p.m. and the contest will be televised nationally on CBS College Sports.
