Langston Galloway scored 20 points and Halil Kanacevic and Ronald Roberts, Jr., each posted a double-double as Saint Joseph's defeated Marist, 81-62, in the Hawks'  home opener at Hagan Arena.

The Hawks are now 2-0 heading into Saturday's meeting with Creighton.

Kanacevic just missed a triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, while Roberts had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Galloway shot 6-for-8 from the field, and 3-for-5 from three-point range, while also grabbing eight rebounds.

Marist (0-3) was led by Chavaughn Lewis, who scored a game-high 26 points, and Jay Bowie, who scored 11.

Saint Joseph's scored the first 12 points of the game in the first four minutes and never trailed in the contest. With SJU leading 12-0, Marist went on a 10-3 run to close to 15-10, but the Hawks would increase it to 20-10 by the midway point of the half. A layup by Adam Kemp at 9:06 pulled Marist to within 22-17, but Saint Joseph's closed out the half with an 18-8 run to take a 40-25 lead at halftime.

Both teams were cold from three-point range in the first half, with the Hawks going 1-for-6 and Marist going 0-for-11. That changed in the second as Saint Joseph's shot 60 percent (6-for-10), led by a 3-for-3 effort from Galloway, while Marist connected on 6-for-11 long-range shots.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Galloway in the first three minutes of the second half built SJU's lead up to 46-27. Marist scored nine straight helped by consecutive three-pointers from Bowie to come within, 48-36, but that was the closest the visitors would get the rest of the game.

A three-pointer by Chris Wilson at 8:41 gave Saint Joseph's its biggest margin of the game, 71-47, and the Hawks maintained close to a 20-point lead for the rest of the way.

Head coach Phil Martelli was able to get all 14 players into the game, the most notable being redshirt freshman Kyle Molock, who made his Saint Joseph's debut with four minutes remaining. It was the first game action for Molock after undergoing ACL surgery on his right knee in the summer of 2012.

"I feel good for the players. It was a fabulous student turnout. They felt the support," said Martelli. "When we shoot the ball, it's nice and smooth and rhythmic. When we don't, we have to dig down deeper defensively. Those are two second halves where we gave up 37-38 points so that has to be addressed."

Saturday's game time from Hagan Arena is 7 p.m. with the contest being televised on SportsNet New York and The Comcast Network (Pa.).
