RICHMOND, Va. - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team closed out its 2013 season on Sunday, falling to Richmond, 5-0, at Crenshaw Field.
The Hawks' defeat, coupled with results from around the league, eliminated Saint Joseph's (6-13 overall, 3-4 Atlantic 10) from contention for a berth in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
The game was scoreless for most of the first half, but Richmond (13-6 overall, 6-1 Atlantic 10) took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a goal by Samantha Ostoich with 6:53 to go in the half.
Taylor Deitrick scored the first of her two goals on the day just under five minutes into the second half to double the lead. Amy Cooke tallied with 15:06 to go to make it a 3-0 lead before Deitrick notched her second of the day four minutes later.
Kelly Quinn closed out the scoring for the Spiders with 2:30 to play.
Junior goalkeeper Rachel Barnett made eight saves on the day for the Hawks.
