MERION STATION, Pa. – Sophomore Sarah Yerk notched the first multi-goal game of her career as the Saint Joseph’s field hockey team topped Saint Louis, 3-1, on Friday afternoon at Ellen Ryan Field.  Junior Jordan Martin added a goal and an assist on the day as well.

Saint Joseph’s (5-11 overall, 2-2 Atlantic 10) opened the scoring 2:30 into the game as Martin picked up a rebound and sent it to Yerk, who converted in front of the cage for her third goal of the season.

Martin doubled the lead just over two minutes later, grabbing a loose ball from a blocked shot and putting it past Billikens keeper Tori Westhead for a 2-0 lead.

Yerk nabbed her second of the game and fourth of the season with 10:58 to play as she took a pass from Melanie Colozzi and sent it on the cage.  Westhead made the initial stop, but ultimately could not prevent the ball from crossing the line.

Saint Louis (1-16 overall, 0-4 Atlantic 10) broke through for a goal with just over five minutes to play as Jenell Murphy scored her second of the year on an assist from Megan Rogers.

Rachel Barnett made one save to earn the victory for the Hawks, while Westhead made eight for the Billikens.

Saint Joseph’s concludes the home portion of its schedule with a 1:30 p.m. game against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday.  Senior captains Sara Kolobielski and Shannon McNeill will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
