NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After leading the Hawks to a 1-1 week in which the Crimson and Gray did not allow a goal from open play, Saint Joseph's men's soccer junior midfielder Ritchie Barry has been selected the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week while sophomore midfielder Joseph Boehm has been tabbed the A-10 Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Additionally, freshman centerback Alex Hartmann is this week's A-10 Rookie of the Week.
Just under three minutes into the match, Barry scored SJU's match-winning goal in a 1-0 road win over LIU on Saturday evening to lead the Hawks to their first win of the 2019 campaign. The junior midfielder played all but 10 minutes in SJU's pair of contests, including the full 92 in the Hawks' 1-0 overtime home loss to Fairfield last Wednesday evening. The honor marks the first weekly accolade from the conference for his collegiate career.
Boehm made 11 saves in all 182 minutes of last week's two match-ups, and the only goal allowed was Fairfield's overtime PK. The honor marks the second weekly accolade from the conference for his collegiate career having earned Rookie of the Week honors once last fall.
In just his second and third collegiate matches, Hartmann anchored a defense that did not allow a goal (with the exception of the Fairfield PK) in a full 182 minutes of action. The honor marks the first of his collegiate career.
Barry, Boehm, Hartmann, and the Hawks return home to host Stony Brook tomorrow night, September 10, at 7:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.
