AMHERST, Mass. - Behind a two-run top of the seventh, fifth seed Saint Joseph's downed top seed Fordham, 3-1, in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Softball Championship on Thursday at the UMass Softball Complex. With the victory, the Hawks advance to face third seed George Washington in the semifinals on Friday at 11 a.m.
After a scoreless top of the first, Fordham took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI double by Molly Roark.
The game would remained tied at 1-1 into the top of the seventh when Amanda Kulp led off with a triple to right center to spark the Hawks. Kulp came in to score the go-ahead run on a single through the left side by Kapala with one out, while Caela Abadie followed with a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Sarah Ostaszewski to score and make it 3-1.
In the circle, Ashley Ventura made the lead stand as she set Fordham down in order to clinch the win. With the victory, Ventura improved to 15-15 on the season as she allowed one run on three hits and added a strikeout in the complete game decision.
