DAYTON, Ohio - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped the first game of its three-game series at Dayton, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon.

Originally set for a doubleheader, Saturday's second game was moved to Sunday due to poor weather for the remainder of the day. The Hawks and Flyers will now cap the regular season with two games starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Saint Joseph's (25-22, 12-9 A-10) took the first lead of the game in the top of the second as Taryn Grober singled home Caela Abadie to make it 1-0.

The Flyers (23-24, 10-6 A-10) answered back in the bottom half of the second though with five runs on a RBI single and grand slam home run against SJU starter Ashley Ventura.

Ventura would keep Dayton on its toes from there, allowing just two hits the rest of the way as her teammates made it 5-4 in the top of the third. With runners at second and third and two outs, Molly Kapala connected on her fifth home run of the season to make it a one-run game.

The Hawks would get the tying run on in both the fifth and sixth innings but couldn't push a run across, while Dayton set SJU down in order in the top of the seventh to close out the game.

Ventura, who allowed five earned runs over 6.0 innings while striking out three, moved to 13-15 on the year with the loss.

At the plate, Kapala was 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, while Kirstin Cox finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
