AMHERST, Mass. - Saint Joseph's sophomore Amanda Nava posted a victory at the top singles flight as the Hawks dropped a hard-fought match at Massachusetts, 6-1, on Sunday.

Playing at the top singles flight, Nava battled back after dropping the first set to post a 1-6, 7-6 (9), 10-5 victory over Janja Kovacevic.

The Minutewomen would prevail in the other singles matches and take the doubles point to earn the team win.

"The Hawks displayed amazing competitiveness and bravery as they battled one of the top conference teams indoors in Massachusetts. Amanda continued her amazing win streak with a come-from-behind victory in a convincing super breaker after a long second set breaker. Laura continued playing well, as did all the Hawks and a very solid performance by Katherine in the second set," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "After the shellacking the Hawks suffered in the doubles, it would have been easy to go through the motions, but on every court the ladies rose to their individual challenges and fought hard for every point. I was extremely proud of our team today and they showed real toughness that will earn them big rewards through the balance of the conference matches."

The Hawks (1-12) are back in action this Thursday versus at Drexel at 2 p.m.
