PHILADELPHIA – The Crimson and Gray will get its first taste of outside competition on Saturday, October 20 when the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse squad scrimmages Richmond and Navy at Boys' Latin School in Baltimore, Md.

Under the direction of head coach Taylor Wray, now in his eighth year at the helm, Saint Joseph's returns 20 letterwinners from a year ago and four starters in sophomore attackman Shane Fable, sophomore midfielder Nicholas Vernacchio, junior defenseman Tyler Makar, and sophomore goalkeeper Mike Adler alongside the squad's top returning face-off specialist in sophomore Billy Jardeleza. The Hawks went 11-4 last spring, which included a perfect 6-0 in Northeast Conference action, and reached the NEC title game for the third time in four years.

The Saint Joseph's/Richmond match-up is slated for noon. Richmond won the 2018 Southern Conference Tournament championship with an 11-10 overtime thriller over Jacksonville last spring to earn the SoCon's automatic bid into the 2018 NCAA Tournament, where the Spiders hit the back of the net nine times in their loss to then-#2 Albany in the First Round. Richmond went 11-6 overall, which included an 11-10 statement win over then-#14 UNC in mid-March, and 6-1 in the SoCon last spring.

The Saint Joseph's/Navy meeting is set for 2:00 p.m. Navy reached the semifinals of the 2018 Patriot League Tournament, falling to Lehigh in overtime, 10-9. The Midshipmen went 9-5 overall and 7-1 in the PL and closed the season with five wins in their final six contests.
