VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team kicked off its 2018 fall schedule with matches at the Eighth Annual Villanova Invitational over the weekend.  The Hawks put forth some solid performances upon which to build as the new slate gets underway.

In the Blue Draw, senior Dan Tan and junior Luis Janko earned a pair of team victories under the tournament's format of two singles and one doubles match per contest.  The pair breezed to a 3-0 win over Daniel Kramer and John Yurconic of Lafayette on Friday before dropping the doubles match and rallying for singles wins over Colgate's Alec Dardis and Rohan Gupta on Sunday.

Senior Andre Fick teamed with sophomore Johnnie Massart to notch two wins as well.  A doubles win over Blaise Casselbury and Milo Nagle of Delaware followed by Fick topping Casselbury in singles play secured a 2-1 win on Friday before singles wins over Matt Fitzmaurice and Skyler Gates of Loyola were enough to earn a victory on Sunday.

Junior Beekman Schaeffert and sophomore Sam Sauter made it a clean sweep in the Blue Draw on Sunday, as they topped Casselbury and Nagle in a tiebreaker and Sauter outlasted Nagle, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5), in singles play to secure a match victory.

Junior Scott Battaglia and sophomore Alex MacNeil found success in the White Draw, earning 2-1 wins on Saturday and Sunday.  The pair topped Brandt Baldwin and Will Barry of Lafayette, 6-4, before a defaulted singles match gave the Hawks a win in Saturday's action.  Battaglia and MacNeil then teamed up for a win over Arnav Patodia and Nick Sweeney of Haverford; Battaglia went on to a 6-0, 5-7, 10-7 supertiebreaker victory to secure the overall win.

The Hawks will be back in action starting Friday as Hawk Hill plays host to the 10th annual Saint Joseph's Invitational.  Four singles flights and two doubles flights will be contested over three days at the SJU Tennis Complex; full draws will be released later this week.
