Saint Joseph's trailed early as Saint Peter's got on the board first in the 10th minute; Jordan Jowers stole the ball in the box and put away an open-net goal at the 9:42 mark.
From there, it was all about the Hawks.
Junior forward Leon Maric, in just his second match as a Hawk after transferring in from the University of Virginia, equalized in the 24th minute, assisted by sophomore midfielder Ritchie Barry, to even the score at 1-1.
Freshman forward Frantz Pierrot added SJU's insurance goal in the 72nd minute, beating a defender one-on-one to put away his first collegiate score into the bottom-right corner.
Freshman goalkeeper Joseph Boehm (1-1-0) played the full 90:00 in goal to pick up his first collegiate win.
For the match, Saint Joseph's owned a 12-6 advantage in shots, and SJU's defensive unit of Boehm and the back line of senior Eddie McCusker, redshirt junior Mike Fornaro, and sophomores David Grana and Daniel Morales held Saint Peter's offense to just one shot on goal, Jowers' score, for the entire evening.
Barry, Lyons, and sophomore midfielder Aidan Watkins added full-match efforts in the win.
Saint Joseph's will host Quinnipiac (0-1-1) in the Hawks' 2018 home opener this Saturday, September 1. Start time is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.
