GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Saint Joseph’s baseball team wrapped up its stay at the Keith LeClair Classic on Sunday afternoon, falling to #18 East Carolina, 9-0, at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

East Carolina (8-3) took the lead in the home half of the third as an error and a single scored Bryant Packard with the first run of the game.  A double by Spencer Brickhouse then scored Turner Brown before a fielder’s choice by Chandler Jenkins brought home Brickhouse to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

Saint Joseph’s (2-5) had an opportunity in the top of the fourth, but ultimately could not push across a run.  With two outs, Charlie Concannon struck out but advanced on a wild pitch before James McConnon and Matt Maul hit consecutive singles to load the bases.  Unfortunately for the Hawks, ECU’s Chris Holba induced a groundout to escape the inning unscathed.

The Pirates added two more in the sixth on a home run by Seth Caddell and a double by Packard before a Nick Barber single and a three-run home run by Packard in the seventh set the final score at 9-0.

Holba earned the win after allowing three hits and striking out eight in seven shutout innings.  Justin Aungst took the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in five and two-thirds innings.

The Hawks will kick off the final stretch of their season-opening road trip on Friday when they take on Florida International at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida.  SJU will meet Western Michigan and Georgetown on Saturday before facing Georgetown again on Sunday.  The Hawks will wrap up the event with games against Notre Dame on March 13 and 14.

Don't forget, for those looking to get away from the cold, we are hosting our inaugural Hawks in Florida Weekend from March 9-11 in Port Charlotte. Come down and cheer on our team on the Gulf Coast as we play Florida International, Western Michigan, and Georgetown. We'll be hosting a Happy Hour on Friday and dinner with the team at the ballpark on Saturday night. For more details and to RSVP, visit
