BRONX, N.Y. - An early Rams goal in the 25th minute would stand as the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad dropped a 1-0 Atlantic 10 contest to defending A-10 champion Fordham at Jack Coffey Field on Saturday evening. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 3-7-4 (1-2-1 A-10) while the Rams improve to 9-2-3 (3-0-1 A-10). SJU now ranks ninth in league standings with four points.

Following senior goalkeeper Greg O'Connell's second save of the match, the ball came back into play, and a failed clear attempt would put the ball back with the Rams in front of the Hawks' net. Jacob Bohm put his shot away for the eventual match-winner at the 24:18 mark.

O'Connell (3-7-3, 1-2-1 A-10) made six saves, including a pair of brilliant stops in the 27th and 90th minutes, in the full 90:00.

Also on the defensive end of the field, freshman midfielder David Grana put forth yet another strong performance, which included blocking a Fordham shot and clearing the ball out in the 17th minute of play.

For the match, Fordham held a 14-11 edge in shots, but each team landed seven on goal. Senior midfielder Matt Crawford, sophomore midfielder Dontrim Namani, and freshman midfielder Ritchie Barry all fired off two shots on goal apiece, with freshman midfielder Alvin Dahn (5') and Crawford (10') forcing Fordham goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu into early first-half saves and Namani taking back-to-back attempts on net (38', 44') just before the halftime break.

Barry had another good look in the 51st minute; the freshman landed a shot on goal that came back into play on a Nuhu save, and Barry collected the ball at his feed and shot again, but Fordham's back line earned a team save to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard.

The Rams earned eight corner kicks for the match in comparison to the Hawks' three - the trio coming in the second half - and Saint Joseph's was whistled for 15 of the match's 21 fouls.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Wednesday, October 18 at La Salle (5-8-1, 1-4-0 A-10). Kickoff at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia is slated for 7:00 p.m. The Explorers currently sit in a tie for 10th in league standings with three points.
