PHILADELPHIA – The Bulldogs' lone score of the match in the eighth minute would hold up as the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad fell, 1-0, to Yale on Saturday evening on Sweeney Field. SJU drops to 2-4-2 overall while Yale improves to 3-4.

"This was a disappointing result," said head coach Don D'Ambra following the match. "I thought Yale came out and played really hard. They're a good squad. I thought our guys battled all game long and played with a lot of heart. We had a lot of good offensive possessions and created a lot of dangerous chances but, to Yale's credit, they defended really tough. I was proud of our guys' effort. We had a lot of guys out due to injury, so the bench was light, and these guys put in some quality minutes. I think it was a positive step forward from an offensive standpoint, but now we have to find ways to score some goals."

The Bulldogs got on the board at the 7:34 mark off of a corner kick opportunity, as Yale's Nicky Downs launched a pass into the far edge of the box and Kyle Kenagy headed the ball into the six-yard area. The ball would find the back of the net to put the Bulldogs out in front.

For the match, Yale held a 16-11 edge in shots and earned all eight of the awarded corner kicks. Freshman midfielder Alvin Dahn (4) and senior forward Isaac Agyapong (3) combined for seven shots.

The Hawks put four shots on net, all in the second half. The best look came in the 57th minute, as Dahn took a brilliant cross from freshman midfielder Alan Kahlenbeck and headed a strong shot toward goal, but Yale goalkeeper Kees Schipper came up with one of his four saves of the evening.

For the fourth match in a row, senior goalkeeper Greg O'Connell (2-4-1) made seven saves.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Tuesday, September 26 at Navy. Kickoff at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis, Md. is slated for 7:00 p.m.

MATCH NOTES: Redshirt freshman defender Ben Cochran earned the start and played the full 90:00 in his collegiate debut... SJU falls to 0-2-0 all-time against Yale.
