HOPEWELL, N.J. – Graduate student Dan Savage placed third in a field of 79 racers to lead the Saint Joseph's men's cross country team to a second-place team finish in a field of six squads at the Rider Invitational 8k at Rosedale Park on Friday evening. Temple placed seven in the top ten to win the race (20 points), followed by Saint Joseph's (52), Rutgers (65), Rider (117), Niagara (157), and Cumberland CC (179).

Paced by a 5:02.1 mile, Savage crossed the finish line in 25:01.9, just 3.2 seconds behind Temple runner-up Kristian Holm Jensen and 5.70 seconds behind Temple champion Marc Steinsberger. The time stands as the second-fastest 8k of Savage's collegiate career. 

Senior David Dorsey also came through with a top-ten finish, checking in with an 8k time of 25:13.0 for seventh overall. Dorsey was paced by a 5:04.3 mile time.

The trio of sophomore Zach Michon (25:42.4), senior Collin Crilly (25:44.6), and sophomore Josh Clark (25:46.4) placed 13th, 14th, and 15th, respectively, to round out the scoring and to lock down the second-place team finish for the Crimson and Gray.

Juniors Jack Daly (25:52.6) and Sean Macpherson (25:53.7) turned in 17th- and 18th-place finishes, respectively, to finish as SJU's #6 and #7 runners. 

Saint Joseph's will take a weekend off from competition before splitting up for a pair of races the following weekend. Select Hawks will race the Paul Short Run on Friday, September 29, to be held on Lehigh University's Goodman Campus in Bethlehem, Pa. beginning at 9:30 a.m. Additional Hawks will race the George Mason Invitational on Saturday, September 30, to be hosted by George Mason University at the Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va. beginning at 10:45 a.m.; this race will give the Hawks an opportunity to race the course of the upcoming 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship.
