FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart put away the late equalizer (89') and the match-winner (94') just under five minutes apart to defeat the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad, 2-1, at Park Avenue Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-2-2 overall while the Pioneers improve to 2-4-0.

Saint Joseph's freshman midfielder Aidan Watkins got the Hawks on the board with his first collegiate goal in the 28th minute. Watkins gained possession about 13 yards out off of a clear attempt and fired his shot into the bottom-left corner to put the Hawks up, 1-0.

The Pioneers chipped away and finally broke through in the 89th minute. Immediately following a shot by Sacred Heart's Oscar Curras that was blocked back into play by SJU's defense, SHU's Alejandro Arribas gathered the ball at his feet in the middle of the box from about seven yards out and netted the late equalizer with just 1:23 remaining in regulation.

Just 3:14 into the overtime period, Arribas hit Ermir Celaj with a pass at the top of the box, and Celaj one-touched it and sent it into the back of the net for the match-winner.

Saint Joseph's senior goalkeeper Greg O'Connell (2-2-1) matched a season-high seven saves, stopping the first seven shots on goal that he faced, before allowing the late pair of scores in the full 93:14.

For the match, the Pioneers held an 18-8 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.

The Hawks will take a week away from competition before they close out their three-match road stretch at Villanova (2-3-0) next Tuesday, September 19. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m. at the Higgins Soccer Complex. The Wildcats are slated to play both Rider (9/13) and Marquette (9/16) before facing the Hawks.

MATCH NOTES: Redshirt freshman forward Jarod Ramses made his first collegiate start... The Hawks now drop to 0-2-1 in road matches this season and stand at 2-0-1 in matches played on Sweeney Field.
