Saint Joseph's juniors Katherine Robb and Caroline Strauss have been named to the 2017 Philadelphia Inquirer Women's Rowing Academic All-Area Team. The team is chosen by Philadelphia metropolitan area's 28 sports information directors.
Robb, an accounting major from Roswell, Ga., earns Academic All-Area honors for the second year in a row. She rowed for the Hawks' Varsity 8 that earned a bronze medal at the 2017 Dad Vail Regatta, for SJU's first medal in that event since 2010. Robb also helped the Hawks to a fourth-place finish at the Kelly Cup.
She was an Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team selection in 2016 and has also earned recognition on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll for multiple semesters.
Strauss, from Medway, Mass., receives Academic All-Area mention for the first time. She was a member of the Second Varsity 8 that placed fourth at the Dad Vail Regatta and earned a third-place finish at the Kelly Cup.
A Leadership, Ethics, and Organizational Sustainability major in the Haub School of Business, she has received the team's Academic Award for highest GPA for the past two years, while also earning a spot on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll for multiple semesters.
In order to be eligible for the Academic All-Area team, an athlete must be in his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.
