NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Finishing the regular season at 11-6 overall and 7-2 in the Atlantic 10, the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team has earned the second seed and a first-round bye for next week's 2017 Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship, hosted on Sweeney Field on Thursday, May 4, Friday, May 5, and Sunday, May 7.
The Hawks will face the winner of No. 3 Richmond (7-2 A-10) and No. 6 La Salle (3-6 A-10) on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
The championship expanded to six teams last year, giving UMass (9-0 A-10) and the second-seeded Hawks a bye into Friday's semifinals. The winner of Sunday's championship final will receive the A-10's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
A three-way tie for second place between Saint Joseph's, Richmond, and George Mason was broken by goal differential in games played between the tied teams, and the Hawks' 10-goal win over the Patriots on April 21 made the difference.
No. 4 George Mason (7-2 A-10) will face No. 5 Davidson (5-4 A-10) in the first of two quarterfinals on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. No. 1 UMass (9-0 A-10) will face the winner of that game on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
All five games of the Lacrosse Championship will be streamed through the A-10 Network for free, which can be accessed from Atlantic10.com.
Parking for the event will be located in the main University Lot, as well as the Hawks Landing Parking Facility on 54th Street. There will be a $10.00 charge per vehicle.
