STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Junior Claudine Andre hit the ECAC-qualifying mark in the high jump to lead the Saint Joseph’s women’s track and field squad at the Wagner College Invitational on Friday evening. The unscored meet was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Andre posted a mark of 1.70m in her first high jump event of the season to already qualify for the ECAC Championships in March; Andre placed fifth (1.65m) at the ECAC indoor meet last winter.

The versatile junior also led all Hawks in the 60m hurdles, placing 18th in a field of 35 with a time of 9.52.

Saint Joseph’s 4x400m relay of freshman Caroline Duffy (59.9), senior Angelena Minniti (59.8), junior Steph Toland (60.3) and fifth-year senior Dannah Hayward (59.2) placed sixth overall in a field of 27, crossing in 3:59.66. The group gave a good fight up against Fordham and defeated Wagner, Sacred Heart, and LIU Brooklyn to take second in its heat.

In addition to their performances on the 4x400m relay, Duffy and Hayward turned in team-best performances in their individual events. With one of just five total sub-1:00 performances in the race, Duffy also dazzled in the 400m with a time of 58.75 to win her heat and to place fourth overall in a field of 32 sprinters. Hayward clocked in with a 500m time of 1:17.45, good for ninth in the field of 42.

After turning in an outstanding cross country season on the trails this fall, Cassidy Weimer picked up right where she left off as the junior lit up the mile with a collegiate-best time of 5:09.84, which ranked seventh in a field of 71 racers. Weimer improved upon her previous collegiate-best mile time, set at Princeton last January, by over seven seconds.

Nathaniela Bourdeau led all Hawks in both the 60m (7.938) and 200m (25.93), as the sophomore placed 18th in a field of 67 in the 60m and 10th in a field of 65 in the 200m.

Senior long sprinter Kiersten Moylan placed 13th in an 800m field of 69, crossing the finish line in 2:24.98. Senior Julia Jenkins looked strong in the 3000m in a collegiate-best time of 10:20.57, good for 14th in the field of 50, while sophomore Bridget McNierney posted a collegiate-best mark in the indoor long jump (5.11m) to place 16th in a field of 47.

Also of note, senior Sarah Regnault won her mile heat in a field of 20, clocking in at 5:17.73 for 19th overall in the field of 71.

Saint Joseph’s returns to action at the Lehigh University Angry Birds Challenge next Saturday, January 14. The meet will be held at Lehigh’s Rauch Fieldhouse in Bethlehem, Pa. and is tentatively scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.

MEET NOTES: Freshmen Emily Bracken (Mile, 5:17.93), Rose Barrett (Mile, 5:32.90), Joanna DeSousa (Mile, 5:34.62), Abigail McGann (Mile, 5:48.19), Emily Schaeffer (Mile, 5:38.90), Meridith Twomey (3000m, 10:44.26), and Michaela Urbach (800m, 2:25.34) made their collegiate track and field debuts.
