The Championship Season: Men's Basketball Review

The Saint Joseph's men's basketball team (24-10) capped off one of its finest seasons in school history by winning the Atlantic 10 Championship and earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The following is a wrapup of accomplishments and records set.

POST-SEASON NOTES AND RECORDS

* Saint Joseph's Atlantic 10 title is the third all-time as the Hawks previously won it in 1997 and 1986. It marks the second under coach Phil Martelli.

* Langston Galloway finishes his career ranking second on the Hawks' all-time scoring list with 1,991 career points in 133 games, an average of 14.9 per game. SJU's all-time leader is Jameer Nelson (2000-04) with 2,094 points, while Bernard Blunt (1990-95) is now third with 1,985 points.

* Halil Kanacevic is the only player to wear the Saint Joseph's uniform and amass over 1,000 points, 900 rebounds, 400 assists and 200 blocks in his collegiate career. The senior finished his career with a total of 1,151 points, 1,028 rebounds, 406 assists and 214 blocks, totals which include his freshman year at Hofstra. In looking at where those totals rank among SJU's career leaders, Kanacevic is 35th in points, fifth in rebounds, eighth in assists and fourth in blocks.

* Ronald Roberts, Jr., finished his career with 1,398 career points to rank 20th on the all-time scoring list, an average of 10.7 points per game. He also has 861 rebounds, which ranks 12th all-time.

*Langston Galloway is Saint Joseph's all-time leader in career three-pointers with 343. He also holds the school single-game record after he connected on 10 vs. Fordham while his total of 108 threes on the season is the second best all-time.

*Ronald Roberts, Jr., posted the second best career field goal percentage, converting 57.0 percent (174-290), finishing behind Ahmad Nivins, who connected on 62.7 percent from 2005 to 2009.

* Phil Martelli owns a school record 17 postseason wins (6 NCAA, 11 NIT), ahead of Dr. Jack Ramsay's total of 12. He has taken SJU to postseason play 12 times in his 19 years. Martelli is 6-6 in NCAA Tournament games during his career.

* Langston Galloway has set the SJU record for career starts with 132 in 133 games played. That breaks the mark of 125 career starts previously held by Jameer Nelson (2000-04).

*Langston Galloway is Saint Joseph's all-time leader in career three-pointers with 343. He also holds the school single-game record after he connected on 10 vs. Fordham while his total of 108 threes on the season is the second best all-time.

* A-10 Co-Rookie of the Year DeAndre' Bembry averaged 12.1 points per game this year, the third best on the team. He becomes the first freshman to average double figures since Langston Galloway scored 12.8 points per game in his rookie season (2010-11).

DeAndre' Bembry was named the 2014 Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Year, while the Hawks' three senior starters earned All-Conference honors, led by Langston Galloway being chosen to the All A-10 First Team. Halil Kanacevic was named to the All-Conference Second Team while Ronald Roberts, Jr., was chosen to the Third Team in a voting of the league's coaches. It marks the most Hawks to receive All-Conference honors since 2002-03 when Jameer Nelson, Delonte West and Pat Carroll were each named to the All-League Team. Bembry, who is also an All-Rookie Team selection, becomes the first SJU Player to earn the A-10's Rookie of the Year honor since Nelson in 2000-01. Galloway is the first Hawk to be named to the All-A-10 First Team since 2009, when Ahmad Nivins was the league's Player of the Year.

* Halil Kanacevic was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Atlantic 10 Championship as he averaged 15.3 points, 14.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in the three games. Langston Galloway scored 22.7 points and Ronald Roberts, Jr. averaged 12.7 points and 8.7 rebounds to each earn a spot on the All-Championship Team.

* Saint Joseph's 24 victories on the season is tied as the third most under Phil Martelli. It was the most wins since the 2004-05 team went 24-12.

* In 19 seasons at Saint Joseph's, Phil Martelli has compiled a 362-247 record. SJU's all-time leader in career victories, Martelli is the longest tenured coach in the Atlantic 10 (19 years) and is now second on the conference's list for all-time career victories, behind John Chaney of Temple (516). Martelli is currently serving as the president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
