PHILADELPHIA - Langston Galloway scored 20 points and Ronald Roberts had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Saint Joseph's (10-6; 1-1 Big 5 ) to a 79-59 win over Penn (3-14; 0-3 Big 5) in a Big 5 matchup at The Palestra.
It was Galloway's second consecutive 20-plus point game, coming off of a 22-point effort at VCU on Thursday night. The junior made 6-of-10 three-pointers and tied his career-high with nine rebounds. Roberts notched his third straight double-double and ninth of the season.
Carl Jones added 15 points for the Hawks, who shot 64.3 percent in the second half.
A three-pointer by Galloway and a dunk off an offensive rebound by Roberts extended the Hawks' lead to 20 points, 57-37 at 9:20. Back to back threes by Galloway and Aiken increased SJU's margin to 65-44 with six minutes to go.
The Hawks took an early 15-7 lead on back-to-back three-pointers by Jones, but Penn tied it at 17-17 on a layup by Patrick Lucas-Perry. Saint Joseph's would take control from there, scoring 11 consecutive points with six from Galloway, and holding Penn scoreless for six minutes to take a 28-17 lead. A pair of free throws by Jones gave SJU its biggest lead of the half, 32-19 and Penn closed to 32-21 at halftime.
Saint Joseph's returns to Atlantic 10 play and to Hagan Arena on Wednesday, January 23 to host St. Bonaventure.
